Every day the news is filled with horror stories of war, atrocities, and other unspeakable acts. Yet how many are willing to consider that the source of these violent acts in a violent world is fear and, therefore, only different in form from our own hateful thoughts and unkind deeds toward ourselves and others? Silence Is the Answer not only explains the undeniable connection, but directs the reader toward the repair of the only world that needs fixing — one’s own mind. Author Robert E. Draper culls countless examples from ancient history to the present day to demonstrate how often this world built on separation and fear makes no sense. Explaining the futility of attempting to change the ephemeral world of appearances, he encourages readers to heed the teachings of the wise, who from throughout the ages have taught that lasting safety can only come from self-examination and changing one’s mind.

"Silence is the Answer" is a deeply insightful, profound, and important book. The title refers to ridding ourselves of or silencing the anxieties, questions, and concerns that tend to consume so much of our consciousness and detract from our ability to realize our full potential for happiness and well-being.
The author, Robert Draper, tells us that this book may not be for those who feel totally satisfied. But in fact this book is for everyone. There is likely not a thinking person who does not suffer from some inner turmoil. And if approached properly with the ideas outlined in "Silence is the Answer", everyone would benefit from a more peaceful mind.
It was most helpful for me that the author recognized the fact there will inevitably be negative intrusions into our consciousness and well-being. This is unlike some philosophers who seem to believe we can have a mind that never suffers these intrusive thoughts and obsessions. Here the advice given to the reader is to not struggle against those thoughts but rather step back and watch them pass through one's consciousness without dwelling on them or allowing one's sense of well-being to be controlled by them. And a good portion of the book involves describing why that is an essential good and how we can get there.
We learn that, when we master the processes that lead to a peaceful mind, the benefits are enormous. For example, there are numerous discussions throughout the book that show why we will also find a greater sense of compassion for all once we are at peace with ourselves.
As we move toward our goal, Mr. Draper points out that, on so many occasions, when one expresses anger for the perceived misdeeds of another, it is self-directed on some level. We probably all remember times when someone complained to us about some affront or misdeed we had committed. Way too often, our initial reaction is anger directed at the person who accuses us. Rarely are we able to step out of the initial self-defensive and ego-driven response to truly consider the cause of our anger. And almost always, it is because we are not satisfied with our own behavior. But when we recognize this phenomenon, it leads to a greater degree of acceptance and compassion.
I was also aided by the numerous real-life examples that the author referred to throughout the book. This is a deeply personal book, in that Mr. Draper frankly discusses the personal tragedies that he has faced and coped with in his own life. These tragedies are not discussed in the context of any sort of self-pity, but rather in a manner that is instructive to all, as to how even the most deeply saddening event can lead to growth, understanding, and a more peaceful mind. These portions of the book, in addition to being instructional, are also inspirational. The reader is left with a great deal of hope. The goal of contentment is achievable.
Mr. Draper deftly uses helpful cites from the writings of a number of great thinkers. We receive insight from Albert Einstein, Aldous Huxley, Hildebrandt, Viktor Frankl, Krishnamurti, Plato, Socrates, and others too numerous to mention. These writings touch upon and support the book's premise that we can break down the negative influences that can co-opt our consciousness. There may be those who believe it is not possible given that everyday we see evidence of the horror and atrocities that the human race is capable of. But even the most cynical will in fact be able to benefit from the lessons taught in "Silence is the Answer".
This book is for everyone who suspects they can elevate their consciousness and improve their sense of well-being. It is for all of us who know the unpleasantness of dwelling on things about which we can do nothing. It is also for those who are so lost in their futility that they do not know there is a better world to be had.
This review touches on but a few of the themes discussed in "Silence is the Answer". But there are other important lessons that one can take away from this book.
I read more than 50 books a year. This is one of the few books I have read in the last several years that has touched me deeply, and I find myself going back to it often to reflect or to learn from its insights. Without reservation, I highly recommend this book.

Silence Is the Answer To All the Noise of Doubt edition by Robert E Draper Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
This book, as another reviewer pointed out, does not offer simplistic panaceas or platitudes to the
problems we encounter both within ourselves and in our relationships with others. Having lived
through the various stages in dealing with a son who chose what I considered to be a self destructive
course of drug usage, culminating in his death, I could relate to the author's personal experiences
with his own children. It is not pleasant sometimes to look at oneself and see how the ego works, but
the effort is well worth it because of the relief and inner peace it can bring. I appreciate how Bob Draper
does not imply we can reach a state of Nirvana on this earthly plane, but he does offer hope that we can
learn and benefit by paying attention to our own thoughts without condemning either ourselves or others - i.e
by accepting them as simply thoughts that occur and do not require judgement or rejection. Ultimately,
what I take from this book is that the locus of control always comes back to ourselves, and therefore
eliminates the wasted time spent on blaming others or outside circumstances for our discomfort and dis-ease.
I will reread this book and also share it with others who are life long learners.
From the very first word of the preface until I completed reading the last page, Robert Draper's latest book had my undivided attention.
"Silence Is the Answer To All the Noise of Doubt" is a very well-written book that tells us that we need to change and improve our way of thinking in order to become more peaceful in this conflicted, mad world in which we live. Otherwise, we have to wait for things to change 'out there' in order to become happy. And, we all know that that isn't going to happen.
Mr. Draper used examples of horrific experiences that people have endured during their lives. The way in which these people changed their attitudes about their experiences determined how they could move on with peace in their minds and lives by choosing it in the present.
Draper also shared a great deal about his own personal and professional life with all of it's extreme successes and grave disappointments and told the reader that all that he could change about anything was his thoughts.
While reading this book I realized that the constant chaos, chatter, and noise in my mind are truly a choice that I make, and I came to the realization that....Silence Is the Answer.
